Tennis player Marat Safin has decided to resign his mandate as a State Duma deputy, RBC reports, citing sources in the United Russia faction and in the parliament apparatus.
The corresponding letter addressed to Vyacheslav Volodin "is in the secretariat" of the speaker of the State Duma, said one of the interlocutors of the publication.
According to RBC, the decision is due to the inability to combine activities in international sports organizations with the work of a deputy.
“He told me more than once that he was thinking about this [resignation]. Work in the seventh convocation of the State Duma, according to Safin, is different and requires more focus on it, ”said [First Deputy Chairman of the United Russia faction Adalbi] Shkhagoshev about the reasons for Safin’s decision.
