The ITMO team won the student Olympiad for programming for the seventh time

A team from the St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO University) for the seventh time became the winner of the 2017 ACM ICPC International Olympiad, whose final was held in the American city of Rapid City on May 24.

According to vc.ru , in the allotted time ITMO students correctly solved 10 out of 12 tasks, ahead of rivals in speed. The team received a gold medal and a cash prize of 12 thousand dollars.

According to the ITMO website , the university team included students of the Faculty of Information Technology and Programming Vladimir Skromykalov (the first course of the master's magistracy of the KT department), Ivan Belonogov (fourth course of the KT department) and Ilya Zban (the fourth course of the undergraduate of the KT department). The head coach of the team was the associate professor of the Department of Computer Technology, candidate of technical sciences Andrei Stankevich, who prepared more than one generation of programmers-programmers. In 2016, he received a prestigious ACM ICPC Senior Coach Award for the fact that for 15 years his wards took place to the final of the competition.

ICPC gold medals also received places from the second to the second to the fourth team of the University of Warsaw, the University of Seoul and St. Petersburg State University, who also managed to solve 10 problems. The silver medals of the competition received teams of the University of Fudan, the University of Beijing, the University of Sinhua and the MIPT, and the bronze went to the team of the Tokyo University, the Swedish Royal Technological Institute, the UrFU and the Korean Institute of Advanced Technologies.

Recall that the last time the ITMO team won the ACM ICPC Olympics in 2015. In total, since 2000, Russian teams won ACM ICPC 12 times. Seven times the ITMO team became the winner, in 2006, the Saratov State University became the leader, and representatives of St. Petersburg State University celebrated the victory in 2000, 2001, 2014 and 2016.

International Collegiat Programming Contest is the largest student team of programming Olympiad, which was originally carried out exclusively among the Universities of the United States and Canada, but after 1990 spread to other continents. The debut for Russian programmers was 1993.
