The English court issued an arrest warrant of the ex-investigator from the Magnitsky List

The high court of Great Britain decided to arrest the ex-investigator of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Pavel Karpov, who is a defendant in the Magnitsky List, for disrespect for court and disobedience. This was reported in the press release of the Law and Order in Russia project, created with the support of the head of the Hermitage Capital Foundation William Broud.

The message notes that the arrest was issued after Karpov did not pay the debt to the Hermitage Capital fund in the amount of $ 877.8 thousand.

The Fund went to court in July 2016. Then Karpov did not appear at the hearing, and after several notices, the court decided that the 39-year-old ex-investigator did not obey the court order. In September 2016, the court sentenced Karpov in absentia to three months in prison.

In 2007, Pavel Karpov led the investigative group, which during the searches seized the documents of legal entities, controlled by Hermitage Capital. According to the lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, who worked for the company, they were used to re -register the company and return the taxes paid by them from the budget in the amount of 5.4 billion rubles.

In 2008, Magnitsky was arrested on charges of tax evasion, the investigation of his case also conducted Karpov. A year later, the lawyer died in the Sailor Sailor SIZO. After that, Karpov was included in the “Magnitsky List”, as he is suspected of involvement in the death of a lawyer who revealed large -scale theft from the Russian budget.

Oppositionist Alexei Navalny published in his post an analysis of Karpov’s property, information about apartments, cars and land plots belonging to the ex-investigator. The opposition event eventually concluded that the investigator could not afford such acquisitions. Karpov later opened a criminal case against Navalny, accusing him of spreading slander.
