Alfa Bank shareholders Mikhail Fridman, Pyotr Aven and German Khan filed a lawsuit in a Manhattan court against the online resource BuzzFeed for publishing a so-called dossier, according to which they were related to the plan of the Russian authorities to influence the outcome of the US elections. It is reported by the Associated Press.
The suit is filed against BuzzFeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith, reporter Ken Bensinger, and editors Miriam Elder and Mark Skufs.
The statement of claim of the shareholders of Alfa-Bank states that the publication not only published information that was deliberately unconfirmed, but also made many mistakes in the material, for example, incorrectly indicated the name of the bank.
BuzzFeed spokesman Matt Mittenthal said that "such a cynical attempt to intimidate will not affect the journalists of the resource."
Recall that in January, CNN, citing sources, reported that the US intelligence community acquainted Donald Trump with evidence that the Russian intelligence services had information of a personal and financial nature that discredited the president-elect. BuzzFeed then posted all 35 pages of this document to the Internet.
BuzzFeed later admitted that speculation about compromising Trump had not been verified.
