The Moscow City Court recognized the arrest on the property of the former head of Mari El Leonid Markelov, who was accused of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale, on May 29 the website of the Russian Agency for Legal Information reports .

The court rejected the appeal of Markelov’s lawyers against the decision of the Basmanny Court on April 20 on the seizure of property owned by ex-head of Mari El.

According to Interfax, the total amount of the arrested property of the former governor and his stepmother Tatyana Markelova exceeds 1 billion rubles. This was announced by lawyer Sergey Sevruk. In the complaint, he indicated: there is no reason to believe that the property was obtained by Markel criminal means.

According to the media, only 23 real estate objectswere arrested on April 20, among which there are two Markelov’s apartments in Yoshkar-Ola, one in the center of Moscow and two real estate objects of his stepmother. The property on which the seizure is seized is also located in the Krasnodar Territory.

The former head of Mari El Markelov is charged with receiving a bribe of 235 million rubles. Together with him was detained and arrested by the head of the television company 12 Region LLC Natalya Kozhanova. She is accused of mediation when transferring a bribe. According to investigators, a bribe taker was an entrepreneur, deputy of the State Assembly of Mari El Nikolai Krivash. He was put on the wanted list and arrested in absentia. According to his lawyer Igor Trunov, he is under treatment in Israel. The entrepreneur underwent a difficult operation. The lawyer considers the absentee arrest of Krivash illegal, since the investigation knows the whereabouts of his client.

The defendants in the case do not recognize the fact of transfer and receive a bribe.

Leonid Markelov was detained by law enforcement agencies on April 13. Since April 14, it has been in the investigative insulator Lefortovo. The court placed him in custody until June 12.
