The court overturned the sentence of the leader of “Russian Astrakhan” for reposting

The Presidium of the Astrakhan Regional Court, having considered the cassation appeal of the lawyer Tatyana Ivanushkina, canceled the sentence to the leader of the "Russian Astrakhan" Igor Stenin, who was sentenced to 2 years in a colony-settlement for reposting on the social network about Ukrainian events. This was reported to Novaya Gazeta by lawyer Damir Gaynutdinov.

“The fact that Igor Stenin did not call anyone to extremist activity, and that his criminal case was absolutely politically motivated, was clear from the very beginning,” said Gainutdinov, who represents Stenin’s interests at the European Court of Human Rights.

He noted that the acquittal was "an unconditional victory and the result of excellent work."

The lawyer explained that now Stenin will have to undergo a rehabilitation procedure, receive an apology from the prosecutor on behalf of the Russian Federation and compensation for more than a year spent in custody.

In May 2016, Stenin was sentenced to two years in a penal colony. He was accused of inciting extremism on the Internet (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) for allegedly reposting a text from the list of extremist materials, which he accompanied with his own commentary.
