1937. Suicide of Yana Gamarnik

80 years ago, on May 31, 1937, the former head of the political department of the Red Army, Yan Borisovich Gamarnik, 11 days earlier removed from this post and appointed member of the Military Council of the Central Asian Military District.

He shot himself immediately after he was announced to dismiss from the Red Army in connection with the case of Tukhachevsky and Yakir. Gamarnik had no doubt that in the coming days or even the clock would follow his arrest.

The next day, Pravda said: "The former member of the Central Committee of the All -Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks (b) Ya.B. Gamarnik, entangled in his connections with anti -Soviet elements and, apparently afraid of exposure, committed suicide on May 31."
