A case of extremism was opened against a resident of Chuvashia for a post on Facebook

A criminal case on extremism was opened against a 46-year-old resident of the Chuvash city of Kanash for a post on Facebook, reports the Department of the Investigative Committee for Chuvashia.

According to investigators, on April 7, 2015, the man published on Facebook “material of an extremist nature, the content of which is aimed at inciting hatred, enmity and discord based on religion and gender.”

A case was opened against him under Part 1 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code (incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity). A message about this appeared on the UK website on May 30.

According to the department, the page with this material has now been removed from public access, and the man himself has been arrested. The Investigative Committee notes that during the investigation of the case, searches were carried out in Kanash and Cheboksary, and extremist literature was confiscated.

According to the Investigative Committee, in September 2007, the man was already found guilty under paragraph “c” of Part 2 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code (incitement of hatred) and Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code (participation in the activities of an extremist organization) for participation in the activities of the Hizb organization banned in Russia ut-Tahrir" and the distribution of extremist materials in Cheboksary and Kanash. Then the court sentenced him to 4.5 years in prison in a general regime colony.
