All people who know Yuri Dmitriev, for his many years of work in the Memorial, are sure: the case is fabricated, and the true reason for the arrest of a specialist in Soviet history of the period of mass repressions is his professional and social activity.

Today's meeting in the City Court of Petrozavodsk, according to Viktor Anufriev,, lawyer Yuri Dmitriev, was organizational: the prosecutor read out the indictment, the judge considered a number of additional documents and set the date and time of the next meeting - 11 a.m. on June 5. On this day, witnesses of the charges will begin to testify. And on the same day in the morning, the Supreme Court of Karelia will consider the lawyer’s complaint about the expert opinion, which is the basis of the prosecution. According to the lawyer, there are a number of serious complaints about the examination both by the nature of its conduct and the qualifications of experts. In addition, the Armed Forces will consider the question of whether it is the right to protect their experts.

Recall: Yuri Dmitriev was detained in his apartment on December 13, 2016. At first he was charged with the spread of children's pornography, then other claims appeared. According to the lawyer, the case has begun with one article, now there are four of them, and the whole thing has already has five volumes.

The other day in St. Petersburg in the Akhmatova Museum, a presentation of new books made and written by Yuri Dmitriev took place. The lawyer Viktor Anufriev, who was present at the presentation, told in detail how the indictment was formed in relation to his client. The latter has an article on illegal storage of firearms. With this “illegal weapon,” the investigation considered the trunk of a hunting rifle unsuitable for shooting. Dmitriev has an officially registered hunting weapon, and he had an incriminated sawn -off shotgun for him almost 20 years ago from the boys in the yard - away from sin. According to the lawyer, the investigators either “fastened” this article just in case (if the main accusation disappears in order to justify the arrest and preliminary conclusion), or the court may just under this article justify Dmitriev to demonstrate its objectivity.

But the largest number of issues in defense is caused by just an expert opinion on photographs of the 12-year-old adopted daughter of Yuri Dmitriev. The conclusion that the pictures from the Dmitriev’s computer are pornographic was by order of investigators of ANO “Center for Sociocultural Expertise”. This is the very institution whose conclusions were taken as the basis for the accusations of insulting the feelings of believers protesters in the Korfyanka park, these same experts gave a conclusion, thanks to which the court recognized Jehovah's Witnesses with extremists. Four experts in the case of Yuri Dmitriev (art critic, teacher of mathematics, candidate of political sciences and translator from English) calculated a banal photography - view of the right, view of the left, anfas, from the back - pornographic photographs. Now the defense of Dmitriev is trying to achieve a new examination.

According to Dmitriev’s daughter, Ekaterina Klodt, adopted daughter Natasha now lives far from Petrozavodsk, her own grandmother (her mother is in prison). For all eight years, while the adopted daughter lived with Dmitriev, the guardianship authorities had no complaints about him at all. During the investigation, Natasha gave the warmest reviews about her foster dad and is now very worried about Yuri Alekseevich, calls him his own father: she is not allowed to see her and communicate with him, but she sometimes calls Katerina and asks how the dad is doing.
