The announcement of the verdict of the director of the Library of Ukrainian Literature Sharina has been postponed

The Meshchansky District Court of Moscow has postponed the announcement of the verdict to the former director of the Library of Ukrainian Literature, Natalya Sharina, to June 5. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press secretary of the court Yulia Bocharova.

On May 29, the prosecutor asked Natalya Sharina to be sentenced to a five-year suspended sentence. The state prosecutor also asked to deprive Sharina of the right to hold positions in the civil service and in local governments for three years.

Boris Kupriyanov, co-founder of the Falanster bookstore, former deputy director of the Moscow City Library Center, CEO of Gorky.media, shared his opinion with OVD-Info in connection with the case of Natalya Sharina.

Natalya Sharina is accused of inciting hatred or enmity on ethnic grounds using her official position (Article 282 of the Criminal Code) and embezzlement on an especially large scale (Part 3 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code).

According to investigators, in 2011-2015, Sharina distributed a book by UNA-UNSO leader Dmitro Korchinsky, which was recognized as extremist material, and also conducted “anti-Russian and anti-Russian propaganda” with the help of other printed materials. Sharina was charged with embezzlement later: she allegedly paid for the services of lawyers from budget funds and fictitiously hired two lawyers.

Since October 2015, Sharina has been under house arrest. On May 25, the investigation into her case ended.
