1962 Novocherkassk execution

55 years ago, on June 2, 1962, in Novocherkassk, troops shot down a peaceful demonstration of workers against rising prices. 26 people were killed and 87 wounded. 240 demonstrators were detained. Of the 112 arrested, declared the instigators of the riots, 7 people were sentenced to death, and the rest - to 10-15 years in a strict regime colony. All of them were finally rehabilitated in 1996.

Since some of the documents related to the Novocherkassk events were destroyed, and some have not yet been declassified, it is impossible to determine exactly who exactly gave the order to use weapons. Presumably, this could be the first secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU Nikita Khrushchev or Frol Kozlov and Anastas Mikoyan, who led the delegation of the Presidium of the Central Committee in Novocherkassk.
