The UN Security Council expanded the sanctions against North Korea

The UN Security Council on Friday, June 2, adopted a resolution that expands the sanctions list against North Korea in connection with the latest missile launches in this country. The project of the resolution gained 15 votes "for", that is, he was adopted unanimously, the chairman of the Security Council, the Permanent Representative of Bolivia at the UN Sasha Yorenti, announced.

According to Interfax , the text of the resolution prepared by the United States says about the inclusion of 14 individuals, mainly civil servants and representatives of the DPRK trading companies in the sanctions list.

In addition, sanctions spread to four legal entities of North Korea. These are strategic missile forces of the People’s Army of the DPRK, the North Korean Corporation Kumsan (it is assumed that it is controlled by the DPRK General Atomic Energy Bureau), Koryo Bank, founded under the country's Ministry of Defense, as well as the Kangbong trade corporation. All assets of the mentioned legal entities will be frozen.

The Security Council also called on North Korea to immediately stop the prohibited missile and nuclear activity, as well as take actions for the "political and diplomatic settlement" of tension on the Korean Peninsula.

"The international community is united to take measures, and the pressure will not stop until North Korea fully fulfills the resolution of the Security Council," the US Permanent Representative agency at the UN Nikki Haley quoted. She added that the DPRK missile launches are "a direct threat of security of a number of states, including my country."

Note that on June 1, the US Ministry of Justice also expanded the sanctions list related to the opposition of the development of the North Korean nuclear program. It contained three Russian companies and one citizen of Russia - entrepreneur Igor Michurin, whose company "Ardis Pearl" was convicted of relations with the North Korean Corporation "Tangun".

The list also contains one Frenchman and one Chinese, in general, restrictive measures were introduced against nine organizations and three individuals. They also touched the Korean People’s Army and the DPRK Ministry of Defense.

According to Interfax, the constant representative of the Russian Federation at the UN Vladimir Safronkov at a Council of People's Commissars on Friday demanded an explanation for the expansion of American sanctions against the DPRK, under which the Russians fell. “This step causes bewilderment and deep disappointment,” he said.

“Instead of starting to rake the blockages that have accumulated in bilateral relations, in Washington they take directly opposite, unfriendly steps that only complicate the normalization of dialogue and complicate cooperation in international affairs,” the Russian Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation added.
