Initially, eight killed - two women and six men were reported. However, later it became known that when examining the territory adjacent to the house where the murder occurred, law enforcement officers found another woman with gunshot wounds in the trunk of the car.

The crime, according to Komsomolskaya Pravda, was committed about three in the morning in the garden partnership "50 years of October" in the village of Redkino Konakovsky district of the region. An electrician Sergei Egorov drank in the company of acquaintances in a country house. During the feast, a conflict occurred between the guests. According to the newspaper, the killers did not believe that he served in the Airborne Forces. The man left, returned with a hunting gun and opened shooting.
