1947 Beginning of the Marshall Plan

70 years ago, on June 5, 1947, US Secretary of State George Marshall, in a speech delivered at Harvard University, outlined a program of assistance to post-war Europe, later known as the Marshall Plan. He stated: "It is logical that the United States should do what it can to help stabilize the world economy...Our policy is not against any country or doctrine, but against hunger, poverty, despair and chaos.
