On June 5, the Volzhsky District Court of Saratov fined Andrey Martsev 10,000 rubles for participating in an anti-corruption campaign on March 26. This is reported by the news agency Svobodnye Novosti.
Martsev was found guilty under Part 5 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (Violation by a participant in a public event of the established procedure for holding a meeting, rally, demonstration, procession or picketing). The activist said that he considers the case politically motivated and plans to appeal the court's decision.
The trial of Martsev began on May 23. Then the activist's defense stated that it was impossible to bring him to justice without the sanction of the regional prosecutor, since Martsev is a voting member of the precinct election commission. The meeting was postponed to May 25 to confirm the status of a member of the election commission. Then the process was again postponed until June 5.
