Works of Russian painting at Sotheby's auction went under the hammer for $15.6 million

The most expensive paintings sold at Sotheby's Russian art auction in London were works by Isaac Levitan - “Summer” and “Overgrown Pond”, which went for 908.8 thousand pounds each.

Pyotr Konchalovsky’s painting “Women Bathing under Willow Trees” from a private French collection was sold for 488.8 thousand pounds, which is almost 2 times higher than the stated price. Alexey Bogolyubov’s work “View of Venice with the Church of Santa Maria dell’Salute in the distance” almost doubled the estimate and was sold for 500.8 thousand pounds.

In total, 73% of the lots were sold at the auction, for which proceeds amounted to 12.1 million pounds (almost $15.6 million), Interfax reports . Overall, the auction house had a good trading result, which exceeded last year's figures. The auction of decorative and applied art, works by Faberge and icons brought in 2.2 million pounds ($2.8 million).
