One of the richest arms dealers, Adnan Khashoggi, has died in London.

The world's richest arms dealer, Adnan Khashoggi, died today at the age of 82 in London. A Saudi businessman died while undergoing treatment for Parkinson's disease, reports the Mirror.

Adnan Khashoggi was born in 1935 in Mecca. He attended Victoria College in Alexandria, as well as California State University, Ohio State University and Stanford University. In the 1960-70s, he acted as an intermediary in concluding arms deals between American companies and Saudi Arabia. His fortune peaked at $26 billion by the early 1980s, and he was considered one of the richest people on the planet. Khashoggi was one of the key intermediaries in the case of arms supplies to Iran. In 1988, he was arrested in Switzerland, and 3 months later he was extradited to the United States, where he was released on bail. In 1990, the court acquitted Adnan Khashoggi and Imelda Marcos of racketeering and fraud charges.

Khashoggi was also the uncle of Dodi Al-Fayed, who died along with Princess Diana in a 1997 car accident in Paris.
