Deputy head of the Mejlis was denied a visit to his terminally ill mother

The Supreme Court of Crimea did not satisfy the request of the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiygoz to visit his sick mother. This was reported on the website of the Center for Journalistic Investigations with reference to lawyer Nikolai Polozov.

Chiygoz has been under arrest since January 29, 2015 on charges of organizing mass riots on February 26, 2014, when Crimea was still part of Ukraine. All this time Chiygoz did not see his mother. She is seriously ill, but relatives hid this fact from him. Now new medical indications have been revealed, even more disappointing, so the defense asked the court to give the son the opportunity to meet with his mother.

The petition assumed a short-term departure of the prisoner from the pre-trial detention center under escort, since his mother cannot move around and come to court or to the isolation ward. The court denied this request. The request to transfer Chiygoz to house arrest was also rejected.

According to the prosecution, on February 26, 2014, during a rally near the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Crimea, unidentified persons, “ignoring the legitimate demands of the authorities to stop illegal actions, began to call on the present persons of the Crimean Tatar nationality to disobey the lawful demands of the authorities, to use violence”; “they also began to call and, by their example of unlawful behavior, to induce those gathered to commit the above actions, which led to mass riots accompanied by violence against representatives of the Russian Unity movement and the self-defense of the Republic of Crimea, damage and destruction of property”, and unidentified persons of Crimean Tatar nationality , succumbing to the calls of their leaders, took part in the riots, used physical force against representatives of the "Russian Unity" and self-defense of Crimea, broke into the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Crimea, where they damaged property, causing material damage in excess of 600 thousand rubles.
