Far-right activist Datsik sued the ECHR for 5 thousand euros for conditions of detention in a Krasnoyarsk colony

The European Court of Human Rights awarded 5 thousand euros to far-right activist Vyacheslav Datsik for the conditions of detention in IK-31 in the Krasnoyarsk region, where he was held from November 2013 to October 2014.

“The appeal to the ECHR was due to cramped living conditions (1.9 square meters per person), overcrowding of the cell, lack of oxygen and the constant presence of cigarette smoke. Datsik does not smoke, and he proved to European judges that all requests to be moved to another cell by the colony leadership were ignored,” writes Fontanka.

Datsik was first detained in 2007 on suspicion of robbing cellular phone stores in St. Petersburg. He was declared insane and sent for treatment, but he escaped from the hospital and reached Norway in the hope of obtaining political asylum.

The Scandinavian country extradited Datsik to Russia, where the Nevsky District Court of St. Petersburg sentenced him to five years in a general regime colony. Rosbalt writes that Datsik served his sentence first in the Arkhangelsk region, then in Komi, and then he was transferred to the Krasnoyarsk region. He spent some time in pre-trial detention center No. 1, recognized as the best detention center in Russia in 2014.

About IK-31, Datsik said that in this institution the conditions of detention and payment of prisoners’ labor were violated, and he “personally awarded the title of thief in law” to the head of the colony, Samvel Mkrtchyan. Mkrtchyan responded to this with a lawsuit; the FSIN recognized all of Datsik’s complaints as unfounded.

Datsik was released from the colony in March 2016, but two months later he decided to become a “human rights activist”, broke into a brothel and led several naked prostitutes around St. Petersburg. In May of the same year, Datsik was arrested , a year later, at the end of the meeting to extend the preventive measure, he beat the guard and tried to escape.
