The Moscow City Court recognized the extension of the arrest of mathematics teacher Bogatov as legal

On June 8, the Moscow City Court recognized as legal the extension of the period of detention until June 30 for Dmitry Bogatov, a former mathematics teacher at the Moscow Financial and Legal Academy (MFLA). He is accused of preparing to organize mass riots in the capital and calls for terrorist activities. RAPSI writes about this with reference to its own correspondent from the courtroom.

On May 29, the Presnensky District Courtextended the arrest until June 30. In court, a representative of the Investigative Committee said that the investigation period had been extended until June 30 and asked that Bogatov be kept under arrest for this period, since the Investigative Committee was still obtaining evidence.

Bogatov is accused of calling for mass unrest due to aggressive calls posted under the pseudonym “Ayrat Bashirov” on the SysAdmins.ru forum to go to Red Square on April 2, 2017. The calls were sent from Bogatov's IP, but Bogatov is an exit node operator for the Tor network, which means that any user could write from his IP.

After the court’s initial refusal on April 7 to take Bogatov into custody, the next day he was charged with justifying terrorism (Article 202.2 of the Criminal Code) and preparing to organize mass riots (Part 1, Article 30, Part 1, Article 212 of the Criminal Code). As a result, on April 10, the court decided to arrest Bogatov for 2 months.

Memorial recognized Bogatov as a political prisoner.
