We compare the Ukrainian and
Yugoslav experience.
In April 2014, military operations began in the Donbass between Ukrainian military and separatists, the support of which was provided by the Russian armed forces. In Donetsk and Lugansk, administrations were captured, Donetsk, Lugansk and parts of the regions are under the control of the separatists. The main battles took place with short breaks until February 2015 - before the signing of the so -called Minsk agreements on the termination of hostilities. But even after that, local battles went along the so -called "Donetsk arc", in Shirokino on the outskirts of Mariupol, and in the village of Maryinka near Donetsk.
By the beginning of 2015, most refugees from the war zone concentrated in Kramatorsk. They lived, including in the refugee center, where they could receive humanitarian aid; Locals and volunteers from all over the country sent them food and things. In the summer of 2015, children from the occupied Donbass went to a children's Christian camp in the Rivne region. In January 2015, around Debaltsev, where Ukrainian troops, separatists and Russian armed forces organized a “boiler”, which ended with the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces under fire, concentrated. The battles preceded the conclusion of the Minsk-2 agreement. But even after the conclusion of a shaky truce, local battles in the “gray zone” continued with an incomprehensible status: in the summer, the separatists and volunteers of the “Piece” unit tried to take the village of Maryinka, seized the building of the police department, but were knocked out of the village. The battle for Maryinka lasted 13 hours, after several days the village was fired by the DPR forces, including the day when I arrived there. On January 24, degrees and “hurrican” separatists fired at the Vostochny Mariupol district. More than thirty people were killed, more than a hundred were injured, including women and children. I arrived in the city a few weeks after shelling. In most residential buildings of the district, windows were broken, the walls were destroyed, there are many burnt cars on the streets. The shelling occurred on a day off in the morning, when the inhabitants were in the market and could not hide in the houses. After the ceasefire, the episodic shelling continued: the separatists aimed at the positions of the Ukrainian military, the Ukrainians answered.
I visited the villages of Vodyanoye, Sands, on the checkpoint "Republic of Most", where the forces of the Dnipro-1 volunteer battalions and "hospitals" of the Right Sector prohibited in Russia were based. There were civilians in the villages, whose survival depended on the supply of humanitarian aid and the Ukrainian military, which supplied them with diesel fuel, candles and medicines. After the start of trials over the Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia in Donbass, I no longer came. The war moved from trenches to Russian courts. Ukrainian political prisoners are the same prisoners as those Ukrainian military who were captured by separatists and Russian forces. Show more
