The Investigative Committee did not initiate a case against employees of the Derbyshki police department based on a statement from Kazan resident Yulia Kovalenko, who claims that on May 19, police beat her, her two-year-old daughter, and her elderly mother during a search. Suchkov noted that the quality of one of the fragments does not allow them to make out what is happening on the recording, and they were also not shown footage of Kovalenko just arriving at the apartment and the witnesses leaving. Based on the results of the check, Kovalenko’s statement confirmed that the search in her apartment was carried out by officers of the Derbyshki police department - Zaitsev and Timurshin. The lawyer noted that police from Derbysheki carried out an investigative action in a case initiated by bailiffs from another district - the Vakhitovsky department of bailiffs. We are talking about a case under Article 312 of the Criminal Code - illegal actions in relation to property subject to inventory or seizure or subject to confiscation.

It follows from the resolution of the Investigative Committee that the investigator who refused to initiate a criminal case also did not find any grounds for bringing Kovalenko to justice, “since the event of the use of physical force itself took place and the interpretation of lawfully used physical force as a crime excludes the presence of direct intent for a knowingly false denunciation.”

On Friday, June 8, Vechernyaya Kazan published fragments of a video recording of a search in Kovalenko’s apartment, in which her mother and the woman herself shout at the police, including with obscene language. One of the fragments ends with Kovalenko’s aggressive attempts to push the police out of the apartment. Kovalenko explains the mother’s behavior due to high blood pressure and repeats that the fragments of their beating were not published.

The publication also reported that on June 2, a case was opened against Kovalenko under Article 159 of the Criminal Code (fraud) related to the disappearance of her car, which, according to police, was sold by a woman. The Investigative Committee said that such a case was not opened.
