From Kaliningrad to Vladivostok: at least 1,720 people were detained throughout Russia on June 12

In total , at least 1,721 people were detained in Russia, according to OVD-Info . Of these, in the regions (excluding Moscow and St. Petersburg ): 197 people.

We are publishing the data available to OVD-Info on the arrests and details of what happened. The information is incomplete, will be supplemented.​

Moscow 866 people

• Approximately 32 detainees spent the night in police custody.
• Detentions in Moscow took place, including on Sakharov Avenue , at the site of the canceled rally.
• Well-known opposition activists Mark Galperin and Ilya Yashin received 15 days. Also among those detained is the director of the Anti-Corruption Foundation , Roman Rubanov .
• Alexei Navalny was detained at the entrance of his own house, and the electricity was cut off in the office of the Anti-Corruption Foundation. On the evening of June 12, Navalny was arrested for “repeated violation of the procedure for organizing an event” (Part 8 20.2 of the Administrative Code) for 30 days .
• A protocol was drawn up against activist Mikhail Aralov for repeated violation of the procedure for holding public events, although the previous one had not yet entered into force.

A criminal case has been opened for spraying a gas canister in the face of a police officer. The suspect, according to the Investigative Committee, was detained. At least three detainees have been interrogated in this case.

Many detainees in Moscow were beaten . Among those beaten was Moscow municipal deputy Yulia Galyamina . Among those detained are minors and several foreigners.

St. Petersburg 658 people

• The organizers of the action - the chairman of Open Russia in St. Petersburg Andrei Pivovarov, the coordinator of "Spring" Nikolai Artemenko and one of the leaders of Alexei Navalny's headquarters in St. Petersburg Polina Kostyleva - were visited by police officers and the "E" center before it began. They tried to conduct “preventative conversations” with them.
• In the Leningrad Region, New Opposition supporter Rastorguev was detained and interrogated as a witness in the case of arson of a car on March 27, 2017.

A criminal case has also been opened in the northern capital under Article 318 of the Criminal Code (violence against a government official). The Investigative Committee is looking for the person who punched a policeman in the face.

Sentences to those detained on the Champ de Mars began to be handed down late in the evening of June 12. For example, Angelina Vysotskaya received 5 days and a 10 thousand ruble fine. On the morning of June 13, human rights activist Dinar Idrisov was detained in the district court.

In some police departments, detainees were kept for up to 12 hours without drawing up protocols and were forced to undergo fingerprinting. Police department 64 had not issued reports on the detainees even by the morning of June 13.

In the St. Petersburg police departments they not only confiscated their phones, but also stripped the detainees down to their underpants and beat them . There are also many minors and foreigners among those detained.

Sochi 48 people

• Among those detained is a Radio Liberty correspondent. The detainees were subjected to psychological pressure.

Kaliningrad 34 people

• The protest actionwas not coordinated with local authorities.

Tula 24 people

• Among those detained are minors. One person was detained for a certain badge.

Vladivostok 15 people

• The Cossacks took the flag from the administrator of the Vladivostok Vkontakte group “We demand an answer” and hit him. Another activist was detained with a folded poster.
• A broadcast operator on Periscope was doused with brilliant green.
• Among those detained was City Duma deputy Yuri Kuchin. He was detained twice that day.
• One of the detainees was threatened with criminal charges for assaulting a police officer.

In the evening, 12 people were released from the police.

Norilsk 10 people

• The rally was disrupted by the police, despite having permission to hold it. Cossacks helped the police disperse the rally.

​Blagoveshchensk 9 people

• The action was not approved by the authorities.

Tambov 7 people

• The protest action in Tambov was not approved. Before it began, Open Russia coordinator Vladimir Zhilkin and his wife Natalia were detained at their own home.

Kazan 6 people

• Among those detained in Kazan are the organizer of the rally, one of the speakers and three women for the poster “No to genocide of the indigenous population of Russia.”

Samara 5 people

• The reason for the detention was the demonstration of a certain “Chuvash flag” .

Almetyevsk 5 people

• The protest action was not coordinated with the authorities.

Vladimir 3 people

• The action was not coordinated with the authorities.

Yeysk 8 people

• Participants in the action were detained despite the fact that it took place in the form of a series of single pickets. Five minors were released from the police, one activist was fined 10 thousand rubles.

Lipetsk 3 people

• Among those detained is a participant in a single picket.

Nizhny Tagil 1 person

• The police hid the fact that the detainee was in the police department.

Abakan 1 person

• A protest participant was detained for wearing a mask. He was released after drawing up a report.

In Makhachkala, the police took a receipt from the organizer of an uncoordinated action for not committing illegal actions - and released him from the police within half an hour.

13 people were detained in Veliky Novgorod .

It is also known that at least one activist was detained in
Gatchina, Volgograd, Tyumen and Izhevsk.
