Bibliographer RND will be restored as

Tatyana Shumilova, chief bibliographer of the information and bibliographic department of the Russian National Library (RND) in St. Petersburg, dismissed after criticism of the merger of the RSN with the Russian State Library (RSL) in Moscow will be restored in the near future.

This was announced today, June 15, Shumilova informed St. Petersburg .

She said that she signed a settlement agreement with the administration of the RND, and the entry in the workbook on dismissal will be canceled.

Tatyana Shumilova, who worked in the library for 32 years, was fired in early February, shortly after her public statement criticized by the RSN and RSL association. In particular, she said that the merger “means the death of our St. Petersburg library,” and suggested that such “decisions are made by people who do not read and do not go to libraries.”

The protest in connection with the dismissal was expressed by dozens of philologists, literary critics, writers, translators and publishers who signed an open letter to the director of the RND. In his statement, the Executive Committee of the St. Petersburg Pen-Club called the dismissal of Shumilova "conscious humiliation of the human dignity of one of the best representatives of the St. Petersburg intelligentsia."
