Awarded an international booker

On June 14, in London a ceremony of presenting the 2017 International Boker Prize was held. It was received by the writer David Grossman (Israel) for the novel “The Horse enters the Bar” (A Horse Walks Into a Bar).

According to the Prize website , the author of the book and its translator Jessica Cohen (USA) will receive 25 thousand pounds each, as well as a thousand pounds as finalists.

In the short list of the International Boker this year there were six novels of writers from France, Norway, Denmark, Israel and Argentina.

“The horse enters the bar”-the story of the last performance of the stand-up comic. He talks about the non -healing wound with whom he lived for many years, about the choice that he was forced to make between the two people closest to him.

“The“ horse enters the bar ”opens all the power of human suffering without the slightest hint of sentimentality,” said Nick Bailey, chairman of the jury of the international bauli, calling David Grossman’s book “a magnificent example of writing skill”.

The International Buker Prize was established in 2005. When awarding the prize, the previous merits of writers are not taken into account - they are awarded for a specific work translated into English and published in the UK.

Last year, the international booker was received by a writer from South Korea Khan Kang for the novel “ The Vegetarian” in the translation of the Englishwoman Deborah Smith.
