The European Court recognized as legitimate sanctions against Kiselev

The European Court of General Jurisdiction refused the Russian television propagand for Dmitry Kiselev in a lawsuit against the Council of the European Union, filed in connection with the sanctions imposed against him. The corresponding decision is published on the court website.

"The adoption by the EU Council of restrictive measures against the applicant because of his propaganda in support of the actions and politics of the Russian government, destabilizing Ukraine, cannot be considered as a disproportionate restriction of his right to freedom of expression," the document says.

Kiselev has an obligation to compensate the lawsuits in the lawsuit.

The propagandist himself called the court decision expected. “The judicial procedure in force deprives the right to defense,” RIA Novosti reports the words of Kiselev. “For example, I was not allowed to speak in court and even attend the process. Sanctions against a journalist are equivalent to sanctions against freedom of speech. Shame for the European Union.”

EU sanctions against Kiselev were introduced on March 21, 2014, immediately after the annexation of Crimea. On March 13, 2015, sanctions were extended. It was the decision to extend the sanctions that the propagandist disputed. The lawsuit against the EU Council was registered in May 2015 , but the media reported it a few months later.
