On June 15, well-known activist Mark Galperin was charged with public calls for extremist actions (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code), Interfax reports with reference to lawyer Alexei Liptser.
According to the lawyer, a criminal case was initiated in 2016, during which a search was carried out at Galperin’s home. The lawyer could not provide any other details, citing the secrecy of the investigation.
Open Russia lawyer Sergei Badamshin said that the search took place as part of a case of public calls for actions aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation (Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code). According to him, the case was initiated based on the posting on the Internet of a video of an interview with Galperin, recorded on Red Square.
On June 12, 2017, Galperin, along with other activists, was detained during the “We Demand Answers” action. He was later arrested for 10 days for disobeying the lawful demands of police officers.
