Discussions about the practices of urbanism will be held at the Moscow Institute of Strelka

In June 2017, the Strelka Institute will host a free series of discussions “New Hail” . They will be Dutch and Russian researchers and practices of urbanism. They will discuss how architects should work with the urban environment, how to solve problems using big data, and what is a new life.

A series of discussions was invented by the founders of the SVESMI experimental architectural bureau Anastasia Smirnova and Alexander Sverdlov . The purpose of the events is to combine experts with a unique set of skills that practice opposite approaches.

“Many professionals from the fields of information technology, architecture, industrial design, sociology and commercial development are engaged in similar things, but they rarely speak with each other. We act as a mediator, conduct a peculiar experiment: we introduce two experts right on the site and find out how they personally would solve urban problems. ” Anastasia Smirnova, curator of the program.

June 16, 20.30 - Discussion "Collective actions: developer vs architect." The creator of the startup CIC Rotterdam , Executive Director of the Cambridge Innovation Center Marcus Fernhaut and founder of the Dutch-Russian Bureau SVESMI , architect Alexander Sverdlov will perform. Participants learn what unites the architect and the developer who work with urban development. Experts will talk about how to look for compromises, who and how should initiate city projects, how to think through a business model and find investment.

June 21, 20.30 - Discussion "New Life: Industrial Designer VS Sociologist." Experts will be a sociologist, one of the leading researchers of Russian everyday life, Viktor Vakhstein and designer, researcher of the new life of Jurgen Bay . For example, one of the latest works by Bey’s designer team is the experimental development of the “hostel of interests” Studio Makkink & Bey at the University of Amsterdam. The speakers will talk about the signs of a new life in Russia and in Europe, discuss what private space is and the erosion of its borders.

August 2, 20.30 - Discussion "Information fields: developer VS Economic Geographer."
