1907 June 3rd coup

110 years ago, on June 16 (June 3, O.S.), 1907, a coup d'état took place in Russia. On June 14, Prime Minister Pyotr Stolypin accused 55 Social Democratic deputies of the State Duma of conspiracy and demanded that the Duma remove them from meetings, and deprive 16 of them of their parliamentary immunity. The Duma was supposed to give an answer on June 17, but on June 16 it was dissolved by imperial decree with the simultaneous publication of amendments to the electoral law, which ensured a pro-government majority in the next Duma. Changing the legislation on elections bypassing the Duma was contrary to the Fundamental Laws of the empire. For this reason, these events were called the "Third of June Coup".
