The DPRK border guards on Saturday released the Russian yacht Katalexa, detained on June 15. It is reported by RIA "Novosti". Katalexa with three crew members on board had already arrived in Vladivostok.
As Yuri Bochkarev, Genconsul of Russia in Chondzhin, explained, border guards mistakenly took the yacht for poaching schooner.
The yacht, who was heading to Vladivostok after a two -month repair in Japan, was ruined on Thursday evening in the North Korean port of Rajin in the suburbs of the city of Rason with Russia. The issues of the liberation of the vessel and the crew were personally dealt with by the Ambassador of Russia to Pyongyang Alexander Macegora.
The consular department of the DPRK Foreign Ministry then stated that the yacht was detained for violation of the border. The embassy expressed bewilderment in connection with this statement, noting that the ship was stopped in an area located no closer than 50 sea miles (93 kilometers) from the shore.
A similar incident occurred in May 2016. In international waters 80 sea miles from the port of Koson, the DPRK border guards detained the Russian yacht Elfin with the captain and four crew members on board. The ship was reduced to the port of the city of Kimchhek (Kimchak). Two days later, Elfin and its crew were also released.
