1992 The beginning of the fighting in Bendery

25 years ago, on June 19, 1992, regular units of the Moldovan army and armored columns of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were introduced into the Moldavian city of Bendery on the right bank of the Dniester. They started fighting against Transnistrian separatists and Russian volunteers. The fighting largely ceased on June 23, after the Russian 14th Army intervened on the side of the separatists.

On July 7, a ceasefire agreement was signed with the participation of Russian representatives. Bender remained under the control of the separatists. In total, 823 Pridnestrovians, including civilians, and 90 volunteer Cossacks have died during the conflict since the beginning of March. The losses of the 14th Army are unknown. The losses of the Moldovan side amounted to 77 people killed, including 37 civilians.
