The Moscow City Court upheld the arrest of FBK director Rubanov

The Moscow City Court upheld the arrest of the director of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, Roman Rubanov, wrote the head of the FBK legal department, Ivan Zhdanov, on Twitter.

On June 13, FBK director Roman Rubanov was given ten days of arrest, finding him guilty under Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (disobedience to a lawful order of a police officer).

Rubanov was detained on June 12 at the site of the agreed action on Sakharov Avenue in Moscow. From there he was taken to the Krasnoselskoye police station and left overnight until the trial.

Moscow authorities approved an anti-corruption rally on Sakharov Avenue, but warned of a ban on the use of speakers and screens. On the evening of June 11, opposition leader Alexei Navalny published on YouTube a video in which he announced the abandonment of the rally on Sakharov Avenue. He explained his decision by pressure from the authorities: the companies that were supposed to provide sound equipment and a stage for the rally refused to cooperate after calls from officials.

Navalny's statement The mayor's office called a “provocation.” The Moscow prosecutor's office warned that “any attempts to hold an uncoordinated event on the street. Tverskoy, Moscow - a direct violation of the law.”
