Alexei Malobrodsky, former director of the Gogol Center, has been detained in Moscow. This was reported to Meduza by three sources familiar with the situation. Malobrodsky's arrest was not officially reported.
One of Meduza's sources said that the hearing of the detainee will take place on Wednesday, June 21.
- Alexey Malobrodsky worked at the Gogol Center from the moment the theater was founded in February 2013 until March 2015. He came to the theater with Kirill Serebrennikov. Malobrodsky, in particular, was involved in the Platform project.
- On May 23, the house of Kirill Serebrennikov and the Gogol Center theater were searched. They took place as part of a criminal investigation into the embezzlement of budgetary funds allocated to Serebrennikov's Seventh Studio. The case materials say that the damage amounted to 200 million rubles.
- In the Seventh Studio case, its former chief accountant Nina Maslyaeva and former general director Yuri Itin are being held. Maslyaeva is in custody, Itin is placed under house arrest. According to Maslyayeva, she is ready to cooperate with the investigation.
