Two people detained at a rally in St. Petersburg went on hunger strike, one is already in the hospital

Two activists detained at an anti-corruption rally on the Champ de Mars went on a hunger strike at the 15th police department in St. Petersburg. One of them is a citizen of Kazakhstan. Rosbalt reported this on June 19, citing the words of activist Mikhail Borisov.

The detainee (which of them is not specified) went on a hunger strike because he did not agree with the court’s decision and continues to protest in the temporary detention center.

According to preliminary information, one of the activists was hospitalized.

“During the arrest, employees of the Russian Guard threatened us with violence. In the 15th police department they did not allow transfers, they did not allow me to talk with deputy Boris Vishnevsky and meet with a lawyer. The transmissions were transmitted only after the intervention of representatives of the Public Monitoring Committee. We were also not given sleeping gear,” Borisov said.

Borisov himself was arrested for 5 days and fined 10 thousand rubles; he was released on June 18. He will appeal to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the prosecutor's office with a complaint, and will also appeal the court's decision.

The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that there have not yet been any complaints or statements from citizens about the conditions of detention.

OVD-Info reported that two detainees from the 28th police department were hospitalized; they were placed in an unheated room overnight and were not fed. In total, according to OVD-Info, 658 people were detained at an anti-corruption rally in St. Petersburg, 247 spent one or two nights in police custody.
