The Oryol Regional Court denied Danish citizen, Jehovah's Witness Dennis Christensen, who was arrested on charges of organizing an extremist community, an appeal against the arrest. This was reported by Open Russia.
Judge Igor Paukov decided to leave Christensen in jail. The defendant's defense insisted that his detention was groundless. Lawyer Anton Bogdanov noted that Christensen has a residence permit until 2022, but his passport was taken away, therefore, he will not hide. The accused also alleged harsh conditions in the detention center.
Christensen was arrested for two months on May 27. He is accused under Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code (organizing the activities of an extremist organization) for continuing the activities of Jehovah's Witnesses. The Supreme Court declared the organization extremist and banned its activities in Russia.
