1922 Assassination of Walter Rathenau

95 years ago, on June 24, 1922, German Foreign Minister Walter Rathenau was assassinated. The attempt was staged by members of the ultra-right organization Consul. They took revenge on Rathenau for calling for compliance with all the conditions of the Treaty of Versailles and for signing an agreement with Soviet Russia in Rapallo. The hatred of the killers for Rathenau was also explained by his Jewish origin.

Rathenau's funeral began with a ceremony in the Reichstag. It was the most crowded funeral in the history of Germany - about two million people took part in them.
