The Euro Polis company, associated with businessman Evgeny Prigozhin, will conquer and protect oil facilities in the country under an agreement with the Syrian government in exchange for part of the oil sale. According to the publication, in December 2016, the corresponding memorandum of intent was signed during the meeting of the Syrian Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Ali Ganeva with the Minister of Energy of Russia Alexander Novak. For five years, the company should conquer oil fields and plants from the Islamic State and the Syrian opposition and ensure their protection. For this, it will receive 25 percent of the produced oil and gas. In addition, the Syrian authorities will pay the costs of military operations.

In order for a similar agreement to enter into force, it is necessary to change Syrian legislation. According to the source, such a document will have retroactive force. “They will pay a memorandum from the time of signing,” the source noted.
