Former Transnistrian President Yevgeny Shevchuk secretly left the unrecognized republic and fled to Moldova.

According to the speaker of the Supreme Council of Transnistria, Alexander Shcherba, on the night of June 28, Yevgeny Shevchuk "crossed the Dniester River on a boat and left the territory of the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic."

• Yevgeny Shevchuk headed Pridnestrovie from 2011 to 2016. Now he is suspected of embezzlement of public funds on an especially large scale. On June 28, the Supreme Council, at the request of the Transnistrian prosecutor, deprived Shevchuk of immunity.
• Transnistria is an unrecognized state that declared independence from Moldova in 1990. In 1992, an armed conflict broke out between Moldova and Transnistria.
