Several hundred people took part in the rally demanding higher salaries for scientists and more funding for science.
The rally, agreed by the trade union of workers of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was held on Suvorovskaya Square in Moscow. TASS estimated the number of people who came at 400, RBC writes that the participants were from 500 to a thousand. It is reported that scientists from many Russian regions took part in the event.
Among the demands of the participants was an increase in domestic spending on research and development to 1.77 percent of GDP, including through increased funding for the Russian Science Foundation and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research.
In the event that their demands are not heard, the rally participants promised to hold mass protests throughout the country in the fall of 2017.
