Original floppy disks with Doom 2 sold on eBay for three thousand dollars

Shooter game designer John Romero got rid of the antiques in a few days.

Game designer and co-founder of id Software John Romero sold on eBay his set of five original floppy disks (3.5 inches) with the legendary shooter Doom 2 (version 1.7), released in 1994.

The winning bid was $3,150, or 187 thousand rubles at the current exchange rate. It is unknown who exactly became the buyer of rare copies.

The auction, which started on June 25, was attended by 31 people, who accounted for 83 bids. Initially, the price of the lot was $10 and was growing rapidly all the days.

In the lot description, Romero stated that the floppy disks looked “excellent” and had no defects, although they were already 23 years old. According to him, the original box of the game was not preserved. The game designer also promised to leave an autograph on the floppy disks if the buyer desired.

Over time, the shooter became available on many platforms, and they even tried to launch it in cars and printers . If you want to play the original version of Doom 2, you can, for example, purchase the game on Steam or buy floppy disks on eBay from an ordinary, not famous seller for $75 (about 4,500 rubles).

Romero, who worked on Doom 2, is no stranger to auctions on eBay. Previously, the programmer sold David Kushner’s book “Masters of Doom” for $255 (about 15 thousand rubles at the current exchange rate) .
