In response to the continuation of the EU sectoral sanctions, Russia will extend until December 31, 2018. This was stated by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev stated at a government meeting, Interfax reports .

"In this situation, we will naturally respond adequately. Yesterday we discussed this issue with the president. The government will make an proposal to extend the response measures for another year until December 31, 2018," Medvedev said.

Russia takes this step and to protect its national interests, and to support the agrarian sector, the prime minister emphasized. "The agrarians have repeatedly asked us about the extension of such measures and to indicate the prospect of how they will act in the near future. We will do this, and I am sure that they will be able to use these favorable opportunities in full," Medvedev noted.

In August 2014, Vladimir Putin banned the import of "certain types" of agricultural products , raw materials and food from countries that imposed sanctions against Russia in connection with Moscow aggression in Ukraine. The measure taken was explained by the "protection of the national interests of the Russian Federation."
