Ukraine will be punished because of the refusal to put the Russian participant to “Eurovision”

Ukraine will be punished that the representative of Russia Yulia Samoilova at the Eurovision-2017 music competition was not given opportunities for participation. This was announced on Thursday, June 29, the representative of the organizer of the event "European Broadcasting Union" (EBU).

"The broadcaster of the hostess of the country could not adequately fulfill his obligations to cooperate with EBU in connection with the participation of the Russian artist," said EBU representative. He also noted that, among other things, the organization of the competition had “significant delays that created unnecessary difficulties” in preparation for the event.

According to EBU, what was happening distracted attention from the competition, and the reputation of the Eurovision Supervision brand was threatened. "Therefore, the leading committee of the competition, the Eurovision control group recommended that the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine receive a significant fine in accordance with the rules of the competition," concluded EBU.

Sanctions will be applied to the National Public Television Company of Ukraine (NAU). This was stated by the chairman of the television company Zurab Alasania. “The morning began with not very pleasant news for UA: PBC. It seems that we are still waiting for sanctions for“ failure to participate in Eurovision -2017 ”participants from the Russian Federation Julia Samoilova.” And I have a great doubt that the state in the person of the SBU will want to divide this collision with UA: PBC, ”he wrote on his Facebook page.

As follows from the statement of EBU, the comment will also be received by the Russian Channel One to refuse to broadcast the competition due to the lack of Julia Samoilova on it.

“The control group reprimanded the first channel for the non -participation of the non -mandatory meeting of the heads of delegations in Kyiv in March and for the refusal to broadcast live performances. The control group came to the conclusion that these violations of the competition rules are compensated for the fact that the Russian artist was not allowed to participate (in the competition) in Ukraine,” the statement of the European Broadcasting Union said.

The National public television and radio company of Ukraine intends to appeal the decision of EBU on punishment. This was announced by RBC by the head of the Board of the broadcaster Zurab Alasania.

“I understand EBU and their desire to somehow preserve my face. From their point of view, it would be much worst the punishment as the removal of Ukraine for a year or two from participation in the competition, so a fine, in their opinion, is better,” Alasania believes. He also noted that "sanctions are the same awaiting Russia." In his opinion, the Russian side knew that Julia Samoilova violated the laws of Ukraine, but nevertheless sent her to the competition as a participant.
