The Moscow City Hall banned the march "For the Freedom of the Internet", declared on July 9 by representatives of Parnas and several other opposition parties. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the head of the regional security department of the capital Vladimir Chernikov.

According to Chernikov, the procession refused to coordinate due to the decree of President Vladimir Putin on strengthening security measures in large cities during the FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2018 World Cup.

The action was announced on the Parnassus website. The procession was planned to be carried out from the Pushkinskaya metro station to Academician Sakharov Avenue. It was assumed that up to 10 thousand people would reach the march.

"We will lead for free Internet, against pre -trial blocking of Internet resources, the" Law on Messengens "," Package of Yarovaya ", against the ban on anonymizers and VPN and the permissiveness of Roskomnadzor," said one of the organizers of the procession, member of the Council of the Moscow Regional Branch, Parnas Emil Khalikov. The initiators of the action wanted to demand the cancellation of censorship on the Internet, the rehabilitation of convicts for publications in social networks and the resignation of the head of Roskomnadzor Alexander Zharov.

In addition to Parnas, the action was supported by the party "Democratic choice", "Party December 5", "Pirate Party of Russia" and a public project to protect the digital rights "Roskomsvoboda".

The previous street action in defense of the rights of Internet users - a rally against the "package of Yarovaya" - in July last year, gathered more than 2600 participants in Sokolniki.
