Residents of Sochi convicted of treason filed a complaint to the Supreme Court

Defenders of the convicts are asking the Supreme Court to overturn the sentences and acquit the women.

“When passing each sentence, the courts of first instance committed significant violations: for example, the court ignored the fact that the information that my clients transmitted in SMS messages, due to their insecurity and public access, cannot be classified as state secret. In addition, the SMS does not contain any specific information about the military equipment that was transported to Abkhazia in April 2008. But the court did not classify the verdicts and protocols of court hearings, which detail the circumstances of the movement of military equipment and personnel in the direction of the conflict zone, ”Pavlov commented on the situation to Interfax.

Marina Dzhandzhgava, Annick Kesyan and Inga Tutisana were convicted by the Krasnodar Regional Court under the article on treason. The reason for the proceedings was the SMS that the women sent to their friends in Georgia. In SMS, women wrote about the open movement of military equipment in Sochi.

Kesyan was sentenced to eight years in prison, Tutisani to six, and Janjgava to 12.

The case of Kesyan became known from Oksana Sevastidi, who was convicted for similar SMS for seven years, but later she was pardoned .
