The Federal Penitentiary Service has developed equipment that blocks the control of drones and prevents them from flying into the territory of correctional institutions, . Interfax reports citing the department’s press service
The press service said that “employees of the research institute of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia have developed and have already begun testing systems for detecting and blocking control systems of unmanned aerial vehicles.”
Defense against drones is to “take over control and land it in a designated location.”
“When an unmanned aerial vehicle approaches the territory of a correctional institution, the detection system is triggered, it determines the unique identification number of the drone and then begins to seize control over it,” the press service quotes the head of the Center for the Study of Problems of Management and Organization of the Execution of Sentences in the penitentiary system, Sergei Ovchinnikova.
Ovchinnikov added that the system is capable of independently detecting and landing any drone at a designated location at any time of the day, regardless of weather and other conditions, “excluding the influence of the human factor.”
According to TASS, the first tests of the new equipment took place in Tatarstan, then in Kursk. According to the agency, after the discovery of shortcomings and improvements, new tests were carried out on equipment that operates in automatic mode without operator participation.
