The writer Daniil Granin died

In St. Petersburg, in the 99th year of his life, writer Daniil Granin died. For the last few days, he, as Interfax told a source in the medical circles of the city, was in intensive care, and shortly before his death was connected to the apparatus of artificial ventilation of the lungs.

Daniil Granin (real name German) was born on January 1, 1919 in the family of forester Alexander German and his wife Anna Bakirovna in the village of Volyn Kursk region. He began literary activities in 1937. In 1940 he graduated from the Electromechanical Department of the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute, worked at the Kirov Plant. From there he went to the front as part of a division of the militia, then fought in the tank troops, was the commander of a company of heavy tanks. Frontovik writer Granin went through the whole war.

Fame came to him after the publication of the first novel - “Seekers” (1954). Then they wrote “I will go to a thunderstorm” (1962), “The choice of the goal” (1975), “The Blockade Book” (1979) - written in collaboration with Ales Adamovich documentary chronicle of the blockade Leningrad, “Zubra” (1987) and many others. According to Granin's works, more than 10 feature films were shot, in which he was the author or co -author of the script.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Daniil Granin headed the Leningrad branch of the Writers' Union, from 1989 to 19991 he was People's Deputy of the USSR.

In 2017, Granin, an honorary citizen of St. Petersburg, one of the 18 cavaliers of the highest state award of Russia-the Order of the Conscious Andrei of the First-Called (awarded him in 2008), received state aids for outstanding achievements in the field of humanitarian activities.
