Bad news for the Kremlin

US President Donald Trump called on Russia "to stop destabilizing activities in Ukraine and in other places, to stop maintaining hostile regimes, including Syria and Iran, and instead join the community of responsible states in our struggle against common enemies and in defense of civilization itself."

Speaking in Warsaw on the Krasinsky Square in front of thousands of those gathered, Trump praised Poland as a long -standing US ally, which is an “example for others who are looking for freedom and wanting to protect our civilization.” The American president also said what was expected from him in Poland, namely, he confirmed the adherence of the adherence to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which says that the attack on one of the NATO members means an attack on the whole union. The US President promised to expand cooperation with Poland in the field of trade and energy. As Trump noted, Poland and its neighbors will no longer be the hostage of the only energy supplier.

Speaking of Polish history, Trump noted that they had repeatedly attacked the country, but its people remained undefeated. The American leader called the Poles "a symbol of the desire for freedom." Turning to the Poles, Trump spoke of the history of this people and their freedom -loving traditions, which were examples for the Americans during the war for independence and struggle for the ideals of democracy in our time. Donald Trump: "Chopin, St. John Paul II ... Poland is a country of great heroes. You are a people who know the price of what protects."

In Warsaw, Trump took part in the summit of the countries of the so -called "initiative of the three seas." This group unites more than a dozen countries that have access to the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas.

Cooperation in the field of security is one of the main topics of Donald Trump’s negotiations in Warsaw. Against his visit, Poland signed an agreement with the United States on the purchase of Patriot missiles. This air defense system is specially adapted for the confrontation of the Russian Iskanders.

The content of the Warsaw speech of Trump, uttered on the eve of the meeting with Vladimir Putin in the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Hamburg, is commented on by independent political analyst Alexander Morozov :

- First of all, of course, this is a very sharp performance. This is such a missionary speech of a kind. Trump acts on behalf of the "unified Western civilization." Emphasizing the civilizational moment, in this speech it does not concern practically issues of current policy and formulates only the grounds for "civilizational unity." He acts as a consistent Republican, and the extreme right of the Republican: he speaks of a family, that the family is the basis of this civilization, the value of freedom and dignity of the individual. At the same time, he briefly describes the main, strategic agenda for himself, consisting of only three large points. He primarily calls the civilizational threat of terrorism. The second point, oddly enough, he has the problem of Ukraine and Russia. And he invites Russia once again to go to the side of the joint struggle with the threats of civilization and abandon the policy that the Kremlin is now leading. And the third point, he calls the threatening situation of an internal nature for Western civilization. This is the growth of bureaucracy. All his rest was about the Polish history itself, to which he pays tribute. In great detail, he prepared well. And I must say that his speech will be perceived in completely different ways in different countries.

- Why do you think so?

The foreign policy course begins to clear up, which the Trump administration is going to conduct

-Firstly, of course, in this form this speech is clearly in Poland itself, and indeed in Europe it will be perceived largely as direct support for the ruling party in Poland. Meanwhile, the policy of the last two or three years of that political party, which now leads the life of Poland, raises great questions about democracy. Trump fully supports the extreme right policy that he sees, apparently, in Poland too. Thus, his speech is transferred by a distinct bridge between his understanding of republicanism in the United States and how he sees his own mission, and the policy that is developing in Poland today. This is a difficult moment, because it will obviously be anxious in Ukraine, it will be perceived with excitement in Germany. Maybe, say, in Lithuania, conservatives will perceive this with some understanding, they will recognize those words that Trump said, they will turn out to be understandable and relatives there. In general, it is good that Trump acts with such clear messages. In any case, this begins to clarify the political course that its administration is going to spend further. Saying such words, Trump will not be able to further refuse to comply with the fifth paragraph of the NATO agreement (he emphasized), or from the obligations on general security, part of which the United States is, or from its declared course to awaken the will of the West to develop. It sounded clear there. These moments make more clear what it will be further with, including on the European stage.

“ But does it not turn out that he has a split into Europe with his actions, contrasting the countries that you mentioned, Poland, Lithuania, apparently, Hungary can also stand into this series, to some extent Czech Republic, Slovakia, countries that make up, at least, in the representation of the layman, the basis of the European Union, France, Germany. And if it is, in your opinion, does he calculate the consequences of such a split?

For the Kremlin, performance in Warsaw Trump is bad news

- This is a difficult question. We must see what his performances will be in other countries. It is necessary that he speaks with a public speech in Berlin, for example, or in Paris, or perhaps in one country of Eastern or Central Europe. Then it will be more clear whether he sees Europe as a certain community of peoples, and not just as a political idea. I must say that there is still a frightening moment in his speech. Because, if you listen to its metaphors and the historical examples to which he resorts, his speech can be called extremely militarized. It is built on the view of an aggravating military confrontation. This is a rather significant point, because, of course, the previous US administration was extremely peacefully configured, the words in such a language, of course, the American administration has not spoke for a long time. It is no coincidence that Trump mentions Ronald Reagan as an American hero in his speech. He emphasizes this, that is, for him the Reagan ability to go to a very serious conflict with his opponents by foreign policy, apparently, is a model. We must not forget that this Reagan said that "there are things more important than the world." I think there is some kind of novelty. Because here Trump, as it were, answers the question of whether we will fight for Danzig. " He answers: Yes. This, of course, is a very significant point that changes all the problems for Europe too. Because Europeans will also have to re -realize themselves. Trump raises the question so that the matter is not only in defense capabilities and our American and European economies. The question is whether Europe and America have will. And he says that this will is, and it cannot be otherwise.

- Trump spoke out unequivocally, calling the actions of Russia in Ukraine destabilizing, urging Moscow to stop maintaining "hostile regimes in Syria and Iran." This statement was made on the eve of the meeting of Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, which, at least in Russia, is about at least in Russia. How much will this statement affect the content of tomorrow's negotiations?

- In my opinion, it will affect directly. Because, of course, the Kremlin will also carefully listen to his performance in Warsaw. This speech is unequivocal, it leaves no opportunity for some double interpretations of the policy of the new American administration, a strategic understanding of its goals. For the Kremlin and for Putin, this performance in Warsaw Trump is undoubtedly bad news. Because Trump clearly considers the Kremlin policy of the last period as a destabilizing and falling from general European and Western interaction. Yes, he, of course, once again suggests Putin to think about the consequences of this and return to cooperation, but it is obvious that neither Trump nor his people are already hoping that the dialogue with the Kremlin will be simple. And this means that the performance in Warsaw makes it possible to understand: in the near future, the line for isolation of Russia will deepen in Russian-American relations, ”says Alexander Morozov.
