A graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, Elena Larribo, who came to study from Badajoz, came up with a new way to move up and down the building - the Vycle, or “vertical bicycle”. In appearance, this design represents the front part of a bicycle without a wheel, attached to a vertical rail. Accordingly, by turning the pedals forward and backward, you can go up or down.
A “verticycle” can have different speeds, just like a regular bicycle, so you can adjust your load, which, obviously, is the sporting function of such a solution. However, according to Elena’s idea, this is not just an intricate exercise bike, but, first of all, a convenient and economical way to organize a system for transporting people around the building, writes The Daily Mail .
"Today, there are two main methods of vertical transportation that have prevailed for the last 100 years - stairs and elevators. However, stairs are cumbersome and unattractive, especially in high-rise buildings where people rarely use them, and elevators expend too much energy to lift one person up a couple of meters up,” explains the author of the concept.
The Vertisiped combines the advantages of both, while being easier to use and more enjoyable to ride, says Larribo, who showed off a prototype of the concept that she plans to improve.
Commentators on the demo video on the Internet generally reacted positively to the idea, although many doubt that in practice it will suit anyone other than hipsters who “always have 10 extra minutes to pedal to get to the third floor.”
