• Elon Musk was going to call the car Model E, so that, along with the names of other models (including the unreleased Model Y), the word "SEXY" would be obtained. But the rights to the Model E trademark belonged to Ford, so the car had to be called the Model 3.
• Elon Musk admitted that he chose the name of the new model unsuccessfully. Because of the number 3, some customers thought that this is the most advanced car from Tesla, when in fact it is a simplified model for the mass market.
