The Yakut City Court arrested Tkachenko on June 10. The defense appealed the decision, but the Supreme Court refused to change his preventive measure.
In March, Tkachenko was removed from his post as director of the Orthodox gymnasium, which he had led since 2010. Three weeks later, a criminal case was opened against him. On June 9, Tkachenko was charged with two counts of sexual assault against a minor (point “b”, part 4 of article 132 of the Criminal Code).
The press service of the Yakut Diocesan Administration reported that Hieromonk Meletius was removed from ministry during the investigation. If the verdict is guilty, he will be defrocked.
