The Supreme Court of Yakutia left under arrest the ex-director of an Orthodox gymnasium accused of child abuse

The Supreme Court of Yakutia upheld the decision of the Yakut City Court, which, until August 9, arrested the former director of the St. Innocent Orthodox Gymnasium, Hieromonk Meletius (Andrei Tkachenko), accused of child abuse. this with reference to a court representative. reports RIA Novosti

The Yakut City Court arrested Tkachenko on June 10. The defense appealed the decision, but the Supreme Court refused to change his preventive measure.

In March, Tkachenko was removed from his post as director of the Orthodox gymnasium, which he had led since 2010. Three weeks later, a criminal case was opened against him. On June 9, Tkachenko was charged with two counts of sexual assault against a minor (point “b”, part 4 of article 132 of the Criminal Code).

The press service of the Yakut Diocesan Administration reported that Hieromonk Meletius was removed from ministry during the investigation. If the verdict is guilty, he will be defrocked.
